Belts and map upgrades do not go O.E. (Over Equipped.)  With this fact in mind, new characters on Ruby-Ka can get the benefit of a 5 slot belt and most of the useful map upgrades without spending a great deal of IP points. This is done by implanting the skill points just long enough to equip the items.  Once the items are in, the implants can come out, so these temporary implants only need the bare minimum of clusters for the desired skill and another cluster if required to make the implant be based on a preferred ability (Agility in Baba’s alts).  The implant slots can then be filled with implants buffing other more important skills.

Babaengy and Babemphee as pet classes, have been putting the max amount of IP into their nano based skills which determine how high a pet they can cast, at the expense of being very stingy with IP points to map navigation.  They have also maxed computer lit at every chance.  At level 29 after a quick review of their stats, it became clear that they were within range to implant enough computer lit and map navigation to be able to equip five slot belts (259 for QL 103) and get the map upgrades for direction, people, monsters, and machines (130 Map nav).  They enlisted Babaente to build two sets of implants. One set of 3 to buff computer lit, and one set of 3 to buff map navigation.

Both Babaengy and Babaemphee are level 29 and have the same base computer lit stat at 190.  Their map navigation stats were, 62 and 66 respectively.  The computer lit implant set gave 71 IP points, and the map navigation set gave 75 IP.  Combined with expertise buffs of +20 in each skill and +12 to their basic skills the total should put them with enough points to equip the 5 slot belt and add the map upgrades.

Babaente, a level 75 NT was called on to purchase and assemble the implants as she has just about the right level to nano-programming skills to create QL65 implants.

Not wanting to spend all day camping for QL65 basic implants, Babaente constructed the implants in varying levels between 62 and 65 depending on what she could find in shops.
Since it was a Saturday morning and the 9th anniversary celebration was going on, the OA shops were crowded.  Babaente took the grid to Newland City and then two whompa hops later started shopping in a deserted shop in Hope.  After about a half hour, she had been able to get the required basic implants ranging from 62 to 65 in quality.  Only two implants required more than one cluster and that was solely to change the skill base to Agility, so credits were saved by only buying 8 clusters for the six implants.

Once the two sets were constructed, she handed them off to Babaengy in the Newland City shop.  He proceeded to don his med suite, buff up, and then tagged the surgery clinic.  First the computer lit imps were swapped in.  Once they were in he stripped his memory chips and then his belt.  The new QL 103 5 slot belt went in with no hang-ups and with several IP points to spare.  After scrounging another NCU memory from Babaemphee, he sported a five slot belt with 5 memories giving around 98 NCU (an increase of 18.)  Hopefully this will suffice until he levels up further and his computer lit gets within range to equip a six slot belt.

Done with the belt, the computer lit buffing implants came out, and a set of map navigation implants was inserted.  With well over 130 map nav, he bought the map upgrades and installed them immediately there in the shop. Next he removed those implants and put his original QL 50 implants back in the slots the map buffing imps had taken.  He then handed off the backpack with the computer lit and map buffing imps to Babaemphee.

Babaemphee tried to repeat the whole process but even though she started out with the same base computer lit as Babaengy, she came up short of meeting the 259 requirement.  She was showing 253.  It seems that she had more computer lit implanted already with her QL 50 implants, so that in swapping them out of the 60+ buffing implants she did not have as much of a net gain as Babaengy did.  She will just have to hit another level or two to make up the 6 points.  She did manage to get the map navigation buffing implants in, and did manage to install the same map upgrades as Babaengy.

The 9th Anniversary party was going on at the time, but none of Baba’s tele-presences felt like making it this year.  The Froobination of the generic composite nano buffs is the best Funcom birthday gift so far, so the other items like the headphones and the duck social clothes just did not interest Baba or his alts.

Wednesday found Babaoroody tasked with rolling and completing a mission for a 160-170ish 6 slot belt. As a froob, the in game market is difficult if not impossible to buy from other players.  While the thegms bot on Rimor and a similar one on Atlantean, provides everyone including froobs with access to a sort of classified system, it is problematic since one still has to track the seller down in person to make the exchange.  If there is one thing Funcom could do to make froobs more viable, it would be to give them access to player shops.

So even though there were 6 slot belts listed by a handful of players, Baba knows from past experience, it can take weeks to track down a seller and arrange a meeting.  He did try monitoring the shopping channel, but did not see anyone selling one and he did not feel like paying 1 million for one.  It made sense for him to see if he could roll one up.

It took about a half hour, and roughly 30,000 credits.  The mission was a repair item type in Pleasant Meadows at about the 160-170 level.  Baba did not know what to expect mob wise as he buffed up at the entrance.  He had used the same settings that Babaente and Tireen had been using, and all the mobs in this mission were cyborgs, his favorite!  The mission had several nice big hallways and rooms where he could kite the borg, so he did not have to use his health kits very much.  He had planned to blitz the mission, but since they were Borgs, he completed the whole mission, and got some tokens as well as the belt.

To get Babaente into the Belt was going to take some implants for Computer Literacy.  Tireen collected all the parts for QL 80 head and eye implants and Baba assembled them.  After Babaente got them in she was still 4 points short.  Since she was close to leveling, she thought she could finish the level at the Temple of the Three Winds.  She used the Newland Desert portal to get there fast, but she soon discovered that she was getting no experience off the cultists, and she was not strong enough to solo Deathless Legionnaires safely.

After a close fight with a Lego, she left the temple, and picked up Tireen so they could return to the NW Mine in Lush Fields, to top off her level.  This was her first time out with a CPU upgrade installed in her belt, and even though it was a low quality one, it made a major difference in her nano use.  It seemed to reduce greatly the amount of nano depleted.

Once she had leveled to 55 after just 2 kites, they returned to Newland, where she put the 4 points of new IP in and then got the 6 slot belt on.  Along with the belt Baba provided her from his bank a better CPU upgrade and a Nano Recompiler QL 119.  Next she took off for the back yard to try out her new setup.

Thanks to the nano recompiler increasing her nano init by 127 points, it only takes about half a second to cast her area of effect now.  This will make kiting so much safer and may enable her to kite higher level mobs.

If we ever roll another NT, we will most definitely make computer literacy a priority for IP points.  The sooner a 6 slot belt goes on, and with it a nano recompiler, the sooner a NT can kite more easily because they will be able to cast their single and area nukes in less than a second.

While waiting out rez-sickness after her latest ill-fated kite, Babaente inspected her weapons tab and realized she was still wearing a 4 slot belt, even though she is well able now to equip a fiver.  While she had the 5 slot belt in her bank, it was also time to upgrade her memory modules to 31-64 parts.  This caused Tireen to be enlisted to go shopping in Omni Trade for memory for both of them, since Tireen could also use some higher capacity memory modules.  After she returned from Omni Trade, they both sported 5 slot belts filled with leveled up morphing memories in the first slot and 31-64 parts in the 2-5 slots.

Over the last day the pair have tried a number of spots in Varmint woods for Kiting with not very good luck.  It seems that the mobs that are low enough are too few and spread out, while the mobs that are too high are plentiful.  The meteor impact site was promising, with lots of low level human mobs, but it was also laced with very high level big cats, snakes, and silvavanes.

The last spot they tried was just east of the player city north of the meteor crater, filled with 50-60 blubbags.  Babaente had a really good kite going with 7 or 8 blubbags, but she fell prey to lag, as she was a good distance ahead of the kite when suddenly her health hit 0.  There were no mobs near her, yet her log showed about 5 hits from blubbags in a row. They were then considering trying another region like Tir or even going back to Newland Dessert.

They next ran several team missions, mainly for experience and tokens.  First they went to Home in Broken Shores to try rolling missions, there, but the only missions that came up were in other regions far away, so they returned to Newland City to roll.

The next evening, Babaente went to scout Tir County.  The “40” level Shades in northwest Tir described in many old forum posts from 5 or more years ago were found to be 70 and above now, and heavily guarded by sand worms.  Every thing else in Tir seems to be 30 or below with the exception of the robot guards along the northern border which look to be about 70 as well.  She also scouted the Rhinoman camp in northern Tir, but there were only 2 or 3 above 30, so they would not have been worth the time.

The situation with the Tir Shades is similar to the often refferred to NW Mines in Lush Fields as a good 40+ kiting spot in older forum posts.  While Lifebleeders may have been the exception then, possibly appearing occasionally, the place is crawling with them now.  In addtion, there are a number of 60 and 70 level mutants and other type mobs also mixed in with the Shades there.

She even dropped in to the Temple of the Three Winds, being in the neighborhood.  There was a slight problem, the game was having a system hiccup, and no one could enter.  People were exiting, but no one could go in.  While waiting one of the local giant spiders attacked, and Babaente made the mistake of using an Area of Effect nuke, which aggroed several of the human nano thief types, and before she knew it, she was back at reclaim.  Fortunately she had done a save, so she lost no experience.  She was a bit surprised however, when a minute or two after rezzing back at the Varmint Woods whompas, to see 2800 experience points get racked up to her running total.  She guesses that that was from the spider back at the Temple of The Three Winds.

They ended up staying around the whompa in Varmint Woods, with Babaente kiting the 40-50ish floaters, snakes, and a few Rhinomen in that range, but it is slow going.

They also returned the next day to the same place, and Babaente extended her roaming a bit further, until she started running into QL 70 or 80 panthers which she had to lead back to the whompa guards in order to escape certain death.  At one point while kiting a couple of thugs and an emerald adder, the thugs just stopped and stood still in one spot.  After she completed kiting and killing the adder, she went back to the thugs, and had to re-attack them to get aggro again.  Kited mobs seem to occasionally think you have vanished, as they sometimes suddenly just stop and go back to roaming around.  At another point, a human mob that was being kited along with a snake and a floater, stopped underneath Tireen’s Yalm and started shooting up at her.  After that, we made sure that Tireen hovers at the same height as the tallest tree in the area.  Too close to the ground and the mobs recognize her as a team member and aggro her.

If any readers know of a good kiting spot for froob NTs in the 40-50 range, please let us know, as it is very slow going at the moment.  In all of our scouting, we have found tons of 60 and above locations, but zip in the 40-50 range that is not infested with various much higher mobs.
